Kindly ensure all the fields of the visa application form are completely filled before submitting. If a question does not apply, please put ‘N/A’. You must fill in the form with black ink and using BLOCK CAPITALS.
Visitors to Sri Lanka visiting for tourism purposes must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival to Sri Lanka. Holders of ETA obtain a visa on arrival that is valid for 30 days. The visa can be extended by immigration in Sri Lanka. All visitors must hold a passport valid for 6 months. The following nationals are exempt from requiring the ETA:
Singapore, Maldives and Singapore.
Compulsory vaccinations: Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas. Infants under 1 year are exempt.
Recommended immunisations: Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Japanese B Encephalitis, Malaria, Polio, TB, Tetanus & Typhoid.
Risks: Malaria exists all year throughout the country except in the districts of Colombo, Kalutara and Nuwara Eliya. Rabies.
Temperatures and humidity are high throughout the year although temperatures on the coast are moderated by sea breezes. Interior highland temperatures are reduced by altitude giving a pleasant climate which is not too hot during the day and not too cold during the night. Rainfall is heavy/moderate everywhere and well distributed throughout the year. The south western coast and mountain slopes are the wettest areas between Apr- Jun & Oct-Nov. The north eastern side is drier with little rainfall between Feb-Sep. The main rainy season being May-July.

Hints in Sri Lanka: Some persons may prefer not to shake hands with those of the opposite sex. The business community generally speaks English. It is the convention to use the right and not the left hand when shaking hands and passing or receiving anything. Smoking is generally accepted. On social occasions arrive on time and dress as for business meetings unless suggested otherwise.
Tipping in Sri Lanka: Service charges are sometimes added to restaurant bills, additional tips of around 10% are discretionary. Tips for taxis are around 10%
Hotel Classification in Sri Lanka: Hotels in Sri Lanka are officially classified from 1 star to 5 stars. However, smaller boutique-style hotels are unclassified.
Import Allowances in Sri Lanka: For persons of 18 years of age or older:
200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 340gr of tobacco
2 bottles of wine and 1.5 lit of spirits
Perfume for personal use and 250ml of toilet water
In case of a family travelling together, free import is generally only allowed for two members of the family
